Why Architecting Collaboration? A Must-Read for Facilitators & Leaders

A book series on group facilitation
"Architecting Collaboration" is a book series dedicated to the art and science of group facilitation, exploring its principles, methods, and techniques. Designed for leaders, facilitators, and collaboration architects, these books provide practical insights for anyone who believes in the power of co-creation, dialogue, and teamwork.
Who Can Benefit?
From Facilitators to Change-Makers
The series is curated by Paul Nunesdea (the English author name of Paulo Nunes de Abreu), an organizational psychologist, researcher, and Collaboration Architect, who has been applying and refining facilitation practices since the 1990s. His work spans two key dimensions:
- As a leader & manager, leveraging group facilitation to enhance team performance, foster high-impact collaboration, and drive transformational change within organizations.
- As a professional facilitator & consultant, developing facilitation as a structured discipline to guide decision-making, inspire teams, and build more resilient communities.
Each volume in the Architecting Collaboration series reflects this dual approach:
📖 The first volume (available in Spanish and Portuguese) focuses on facilitation for managers and team leaders.
📖 The second volume (currently in Portuguese) explores facilitation as a professional discipline for consultants, change-makers, and facilitators.
In addition to its curated sections, the books include valuable resources, such as the IAF Core Competencies, offering a foundation for those seeking to develop their facilitation skills further.
Join me in exploring the transformative power of facilitation—because collaboration is not just a skill, it's a way of designing the future.
My PhD Thesis
Fostering Computer Support to Co-operative Work: Contributions from the use of Soft Systems Methodology
by Paul Nunesdea (Paulo Nunes de Abreu)
This research explores how Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) can enhance the design and adoption of Computer-Supported Co-operative Work (CSCW) tools. Rather than focusing on traditional case studies, the thesis captures a reflective, action-research journey across multiple organizations adopting groupware technologies.
A key innovation was applying SSM to design electronic meeting environments, highlighting the gap between groupware design and real-world use. The findings invite a rethinking of technology—not merely as a support tool, but as a way to represent and enact purposeful group processes within specific contexts.
